Repaying our friends, the Germans

The NYT has an thought-provoking article regarding a draft proposal to sharply reduce the number of US troops based in Germany.   While there are sound military, strategic and economic reasons to support this move, there is also the added benefit of sending a large (and expensive) thank you present to Chancellor Schröder.   Happy Valentine's Day, Gerhard!
