Our friends the French:  Getting the Americans they deserve

The French love to bask in their moral and cultural superiority over Americans, those fat, ignorant, nekulturny blowhards.   Perhaps as a consequence, those Americans whom the French have most warmly embraced have adhered to this stereotype; first with Jerry Lewis (proud recipient of France's Legion of Honor in 1984) and now with Michael Moore (winner of this year's Palme d'Or at Cannes).
