The blow-dried French PM, Dominique de Villepin, assures us that rap music was not the cause of the recent unpleasantness in France.
Dominique may be right about this, but the BBC's Hugh Schofield has more on French rappers and their role as spokesmen for the fabled "French street."

Why even have trials for anything anymore? We can just put all the rappers in jail and that should certainly end any and all violence.

C'mon, you don't mean that. Just because you have the hots for "Fitty" (and he is a pretty good looking guy, I have to admit), you don't have to get all sensitive about rappers.
But seriously, I enjoy some rap music, but you have to admit that a lot of it glorifies violence, drug dealing, misogyny, and whole lot of other bad stuff. I loved the film "Eight Mile", though. It really made me appreciate the roots of rap as a form of black American folk art.
