Zarqawi Playing Spin the Bomb. . .

According Al Jazeera, al-Zarqawi has posted a recording on the internet explaining that they weren't targeting a wedding party, they were after a secret meeting of US, Israeli and Jordanian spies:

We ask God to have mercy on the Muslims, who we did not intend to target, even if they were in hotels which are centres of immorality.

The idea that they blew up inside wedding ceremonies is a lie by the Jordanian regime... The target was a meeting of intelligence agencies, but a roof collapsed on a wedding party from the blast.

The public backlash from the Jordanian attacks must be intense for him to be backpedaling like this.

Meanwhile, Glenn Reynolds links to a story claiming 200,000 protested against terrorism in Amman on Friday. (The BBC estimated the crowd as "over 100,000.") At any rate, a significant part of the "Arab street" appears to be getting pissed off at al-Zarqawi and Al Queda. It's about time.
