Quote of the Day: Bernard Lewis on Iraq
Frederick Kempe interviewed Bernard Lewis, the senior statesman of mideast historians, in today's WSJ and asked him his opinion of the situation in Iraq: (Link for subscribers | temporary | local copy)
I would describe my position as one of cautious optimism. My optimism derives from events in the Mideast and my caution derives from observing the United States.
This would appear to be congruent with the latest opinion poll data from Iraq, showing that most Iraqis are more optimistic about their country's future than are the American people.
