Enzo, We Hardly Knew Ye!

The Flying Ferrari caper continues to have legs. The website Wrecked Exotics has extensive coverage, including links to analyses of the crash scene and pictures of Stefan Eriksson in happier days with his (then intact) Ferrari Enzo. They even have pictures of a bearded man (who may be the mysterious "Dietrich") sitting in the passenger seat of Eriksson's other (surviving) Enzo.

Meanwhile, on the Democratic Underground website, conspiracy theorists are having a field day with Eriksson's links to the San Gabriel Valley Transit Authority Police Department and homeland security. My favorite was this one, by someone with the handle "The_Truth2:"

I saw this string and thought I should tell everyone what I saw a couple months ago. I was driving down the 23 freeway that goes from Semi Valley to the 101 in Thousand Oaks. I saw a San Gabriel Valley Transit Authority bus in the center lane surrounded by all black vans and SUV's with U.S. Government license plates. It caught my eye for several reasons. First it was about 2:30 in the morning and no where near the San Gabriel Valley and second the lights were all on in the bus and I could see what looked like crash dummies in the seats. The vehicles surrounding the bus seemed to be keeping me away from it. All the vehicles had antennas and what looked like small satellite dishes and these black dome looking things on them. Anybody have any idea what that was all about? Could it be related to the Ferrari?

Interestingly, according to one of the local TV reports, Ferrari claims that the wrecked Enzo, which was spread over a debris field nearly 10 football fields long, can be rebuilt for only $200 to $300k. I guess the margins on the new ones must be pretty hefty if the cost of remanufacturing one that has been literally torn in half is only 20 to 30% of the original purchase price.
