You Too Can Start Your Own Police Force. . .

SHIELD: Yosef Maiwandi says he started the San Gabriel Valley Transit Authority and its police department after getting a bus in trade for some motorcycles. Stefan Eriksson owner of wrecked Ferrari, showed deputies a card stating that he was deputy police commissioner.

The LAT, to its credit, has continued to follow-up on the Flying Ferrari caper. Today's installment, by Richard Winton and David Pierson, takes a deeper look at the SGVTA and its fabled police force.

Best bit: Yosef Maiwandi, SGVTA board member and founder (pictured at left with his badge), started the transit agency (which is headquartered in his auto repair shop) because he got a bus in trade for several motorcycles he was selling.
